Welcome to the 9th Annual VADA Chapter Challenge

Come experience a special day of dressage competition and team spirit featuring:

Chapter Teams – Junior Challenge -- Individual Classes -- Special Awards

and a Musical FreeStyle Sweepstakes (with $$ prizes)

The "9th Annual Chapter Challenge" will be held on 21 August 2021 at The Meadow Event Park, Doswell, Virginia.  Plan to participate in this fun show where riders from across the state come to represent their chapters.

The Chapter Challenge is open to VADA Members and Non-members. Entries from VADA members will be given priority. If you are a member of a local VADA dressage chapter, you are automatically a VADA member.

  • Only VADA members are eligible to participate in the Chapter Challenge or the Musical FreeStyle Sweepstakes.
  • VADA reserves the right to limit riders to 2 tests per horse and a total of 2 horses, in the event that the show fills.
  • Non-VADA members are welcome on a space-available basis.

Tests offered: Intro through Grand Prix, Musical Free Style (MFS), Western Dressage, Quadrille, Pas De Deux.

Please take time to thoroughly read the Prizelist.

The Chapter Challenge is a team competition for VADA members riding in this show and is held in addition to the individual ride competition. The Chapter Challenge uses scores from individual classes, EXCLUDING scores from MFS, Western Dressage, Quadrille, and Pas de Deux.

How it Works:

  • Each person entering the show will be asked to designate the VADA Chapter he/she is riding for on their entry form (the chapter of either the rider or the horse’s owner, if different).
  • If a rider is a member of more than one chapter, he/she must designate one chapter that they are riding for; riders cannot split their rides among chapters unless they are riding 2 horses, in which case, each horse’s scores can be credited to a different chapter.

  • To be eligible to participate in the Chapter Challenge, a chapter must have a minimum of 3 riders.  Riders can ride 1 or 2 tests each.

  1. At least 1 of the 3 riders must show at or above 1st level.

  2. No more than 1 out of every 3 tests per chapter can be at Intro. If there are more Intro riders entering than are allowed, members riding for the chapter will be decided based upon the date their entry was received

  3. If there are more Intro riders than allowed for a particular chapter (or any VADA mixed teams), these riders can compete as individuals, but will not be representatives of their chapter for purposes of the Chapter Challenge placings.

  • If a chapter has less than the minimum number of riders, i.e. too many Intro riders or riders not showing at the required levels, the chapters will be combined to form a VADA mixed team.
  • To determine final chapter placings, scores of all designated chapter riders will be added together and divided by the number of rides to determine the chapter average.

Junior Challenge

  • All juniors entering from any given chapter will form one team for that chapter.
  • A team must have a minimum of 3 riders. For chapters with fewer than 3 juniors, a mixed team will be formed
  • At least one rider on a team must show in Training Level or higher.
  • Horses may be ridden by more than 1 rider.
  • Juniors are eligible until the end of the calendar year in which they turn 18.
  • Scores earned by juniors will count for the Junior Challenge as well as the Chapter Challenge.

Musical Freestyle Sweepstakes

  • Only VADA members may enter.
  • The purse will be comprised of contributions from local VADA chapters.
  • Musical selections should be on CD and submitted to the show office by 8:00 a.m. on show day.
